Dr. med. Philippe Alves
Dr Philippe Alves (MD), a surgeon specialising in orthopaedic surgery and musculoskeletal trauma, is an expert in knee surgery, particularly primary and revision prosthetic surgery. His work also focuses on lower limb axis correction surgeries, as well as the treatment of ligament, meniscal and cartilage lesions by arthroscopy or open surgery.
He received his medical degree from the Geneva Faculty of Medicine and undertook most of his training at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and also worked at the Fribourg Hospital in Riaz (HFR). In 2016, he obtained his FMH specialist title in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the motor system.
During his eight years at HUG, including four years as Head of Clinic, Dr Alves (MD) focused his training on general traumatology and managing lower limb (hip and knee) pathologies.
He specialises in knee surgery alongside world-renowned surgeons and this has been further facilitated by visiting specialist knee surgery centres around the world.
Dr Philippe Alves (MD) first started specialising in knee surgery at HUG under the supervision of Professor Daniel Fritschy (Former President of ESSKA). Following this strong collaboration, the pair decided to work together at Geneva’s Hôpital de La Tour from 2017 to 2021.
In 2017, he completed a fellowship of several months with Dr Christophe Fornasieri at the Clinique Générale in Annecy, a clinic recognised for its high volumes of surgery and enhanced post-operative recovery protocols (RAAC).
Dr Alves (MD) is a member of Swissorthopaedics (SSO) and the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He is also a certified expert and consultant in prosthetic surgery for Medacta and Stryker.
In 2020, he began working with Dr Med. Julien Billières, and together they set up the Geneva Knee Centre (CGG).
